Anthrax (ang. i łac.: dosł. wąglik) - amerykański zespół założony w Nowym Jorku w 1981 roku. Zaliczany obok zespołów: Metallica, Slayer oraz Megadeth do wielkiej czwórki thrash metalu.
Zespół rozpoczął działalność w roku 1981 w składzie Scott „Not” Ian (gitara), John Connely (śpiew), Dan Lilker (gitara), Paul Kahn (gitara basowa) i Dave Weiss (perkusja). Materiał demo nagrał w roku 1983. Trafił on do Jona Zazuli, którego niezależna wytwórnia Megaforce Records wydała debiutancką płytę Metalliki.
